Action Medical Research (Children)

Action Medical Research has been making medical breakthroughs for nearly 60 years; helping to develop the UK polio vaccine, ultrasound scanning in pregnancy and discovering the importance of taking folic acid during pregnancy to prevent spina bifida. All over the UK we are helping doctors and scientists in hospitals and universities to find new ways of preventing, treating and curing disease and disability.

Today our research focuses on:

  • Giving more babies a better start – tackling life-threatening pregnancy complications, reducing premature birth and improving care for sick babies.
  • Stopping suffering in children – finding ways to protect children from deadly infections, improving quality of life for children with disabilities, and tackling both rare and common childhood diseases.
  • Improving health for all – developing new treatments and techniques to address a range of conditions that can affect both the young and the old.
