Responsible TourismWe care……… Here at Global, we recognise our responsibility that we have to have to the places we visit, and also the local people who live in our destinations. We believe that being responsible within this industry is much more than just preserving the landscapes and back drops to which our challenges take place. It’s about caring.....not only for our planet, but also for its people. Preserving economies locally…… In all our overseas destinations we work with small local ground handlers that employ local guides. We also try to use as much infrastructure as we can locally as this helps boost their economy and also provides them and their families with income. We aim to ensure that all local guides involved with our events are given a fair wage in accordance to local appropriate standards. Each of our challenges is designed using the knowledge of local people and we actively encourage using small local businesses when outsourcing for accommodation and food for example.
It’s not just about International Challenges….. We actively encourage a ‘leave only footprints’ attitude on each of our challenges, and now that we are working on our own doorstep with our UK Challenge Series, it’s just as important. In addition to ourselves, we also believe that it is also the duty of our participants to respect the areas in which our events take place and we reinforce this at safety briefings prior to any event taking place. Anyone seen to be disrespectful to the environment and its locals, and not listening to the advice of the guides will be simply taken off the event – no arguments. We’re passionate about the area in which we hold our events, as they provide stunning backdrops to fantastic challenges. We also actively encourage participants to help ‘clean’ where they walk, by offering prizes to teams that can collect the most rubbish on trail! An extra dimension to events and preserving our country! It’s also about respecting other users of these resources, and respecting the locals as it is often their responsibility to maintain the public areas in which many of our events take place – after all, without the support and respect, we may have not events at all. For mass participation events we always liaise with the local Countryside Rangers to ensure they are aware of what’s going on and also to ask for advice on certain factors. We also liaise with Natural England, so they can also ensure we are following their own guidelines. At the office We re-cycle our paper and re-cycle all print cartridges and use environmentally friendly monitors. We do not allow any paper/plastic cups whatsoever and also encourage our staff to car share, or take public transport. Caring begins at home, and we believe that if we can get it right in the office, then we can get it right on our challenge event. We actively encourage all our participants to opt in for receiving event information by email rather than post. There’s always room for improvement…… We are fully aware that there is always room to that little bit extra, and we do continously monitor and update our views and policies regarding Responsible Tourism - so please do check back to see what we’re up to next! |
