On this site, we offer challenges that take our customers across the globe, to test their mental and physical endurance against some of the most spectacular walks and cycle trips the planet has to offer. We take trips to Cambodia, China, India, Peru, the US and Lapland in search of the best challenges. In doing so, we allow our customers to find out what they’re really made of – and to raise money for some worthy causes along the way.
But some of the most fun challenges are those which demand that participants work together in order to achieve a common goal. Those which allow you to find out not only what you’re made of, but what the rest of your team is made of, too.
Where walking challenges are concerned, that goal might be to cover a given distance within a given time limit. In the UK, few walking challenges attract more participants than Trekfest UK – a pair of events which take place in July and September, and has attendees walking for miles on end across the most impressive landscapes the country has to offer.
Walking is a highly-underrated form of exercise. It is, after all, the form of transport that our bodies have evolved to perform. It promotes proper muscle growth in the abdomen and lower back, thereby reducing back pain, it keeps your heart and lungs in good shape, and – of course – it helps you to shed unsightly body fat. What’s best about it, however, is that it can be performed by everyone – no matter how sorely lacking in fitness they might be.
If you’re like most Britons, you might find yourself stuck behind a computer screen for the entirety of your working day, then stuck in the same seat in your car, bus or train on the way home, and then unwind by sitting on your sofa in front of the TV. Walking offers you the chance to break that cycle and get fit – and with team challenges, it provides you the extra incentive of inter-team competition. Combined with the incentive provided by your charitable cause of choice, you’ll soon have the psychological will to conquer any challenge you put in front of yourself.
We offer two different team challenges, which involve treks across two of the country’s largest and most scenic national parks: the Brecon Beacons and the Peak District. Participants will walk either 25km, 50km, 75km or 100km across some of the most beautiful and challenging countryside England has to offer. Simply choose a distance, and you’ll be tasked with getting the distance covered within a limited space of time. For longer distances this might be twenty-four hours; for shorter ones it might be just six!
